Tips and Advice
As CEO of BoilerJuice.com, my mission has always been pretty straightforward: help our customers get the best possible deal on their heating oil. But over the years, one frustration kept coming up again and again.
Heating oil, which is one of the biggest regular expenses for rural households, can’t be easily bundled with other utilities like gas and electricity. That means people on oil often miss out on the discounts that “on-grid” homes get all the time.
Most big energy suppliers offer dual-fuel deals. But if you rely on heating oil? Tough luck. So I started asking myself: what if BoilerJuice could change that? What if we could help customers bundle heating oil with electricity, broadband and mobile unlocking bigger savings and making life simpler at the same time?
The economics are simple. When we can provide more services for a customer under one roof, we don’t need to make a margin on every single thing. Instead, we pass that value back to you including discounts on your heating oil. Everyone wins.
This is where Utility Warehouse comes in. Their mission is to save UK households time and money by combining essential services in one place so teaming up to bring our customers a truly unique offering was a no-brainer.
Together, BoilerJuice and Utility Warehouse have launched a brand-new trial. You can now combine heating oil, broadband, electricity and mobile into one “ultimate home bundle.” The more you bundle, the more you save and the simpler everything becomes.
And here’s the part I’m genuinely excited about: as you add more services, we can discount your heating oil too, up to 3p per litre.
The first question I usually get is: “Is this going to be a hassle?”
I decided to put it to the test in my own home. An old farmhouse, family of five, all the usual chaos. To be honest, even I put this off a couple of times; the hassle of getting all the details together, calling the likes of BT and O2 to get my contract details and navigate moving away just filled me with dread!
Here’s what surprised me, the sign-up process...
Here at BoilerJuice we provide the initial consultation and quote. It’s best done over the phone, but you don’t have to sit on hold. We collect a few details about your current usage, put together a quote, and then arrange a call when it suits you to talk through. The quote is then emailed to you in writing and then you are left alone to decide, equally we are here to answer any questions.
If you are happy with everything, you accept the online quote and Utility Warehouse handles everything else: switching services, setting up the apps, sorting the transition. BoilerJuice is there in the background if you need us but honestly, you probably won’t.
You will need to gather a few details - usage info, that kind of thing, but for most people it’s no major task. If youre a little less organised on your household utilities, it’s a little more work.
My tip: pull together whatever you have, even if it’s messy. If you don’t know your usage or what you’re paying… well, the bad news is you’re almost definitely overpaying. The good news? You might end up saving way more than you expect.
Here’s what I’m personally on track to save over the next year:
| Utility | Previous Provider | Annual Saving |
|---|---|---|
| Electricity | Octopus (Day/Night tariff, 14,000 kWh) | £350 |
| Broadband | BT | £684 |
| Mobile (3 SIMs) | O2 | £382 |
| Heating Oil | BoilerJuice.com | £120 |
| Total Saved | £1,536 |
Once you get your quote, you’ll receive a link to view everything in the Utility Warehouse portal. From there, you add your current provider details, pop in your bank information, and the switch gets underway.
I’ll be honest, this is the point where I paused.
Will I keep my phone numbers? Will my broadband drop? Am I going to get charged twice?
But I decided to trust the process and push on.
You do not need to contact your existing provider, UW does this for you when you enter your details into the app.
I got a welcome email from UW with my account number and instructions to download the app. From there, I could track everything: engineer booking, equipment shipment, status updates easily.
BT (my existing provider) contacted me saying “sorry to see you go”, "and you have an outstanding contract balance of £200". Typical! But UW covered it. They pay up to the first £400 in termination fees.
The engineer turned up about 10 days later, installed the new line, and got us online. Fun twist: he spotted a fault on the line I didn’t know existed and fixed it, now our speed is way better than before. The kids are thrilled.
Switched in about three days. No intervention needed, no need to cancel my old contract, this is all done for you. My smart meter readings were simply redirected, and that was that. I closed my account with my old provider and got my credit refunded.
I had two phones to switch. SIMs arrived swiftly by post. I logged into O2 (my existing provider), requested PAC codes, entered them in the UW app, and inserted the new SIMs into the phone. Both numbers ported over within 24 hours, and the O2 accounts closed automatically. Very simple indeed.
Clearly I was always using BoilerJuice, I have a Connected account, but regardless, I now get a 3ppl discount on all of the oil I order. How? Because the BoilerJuice part of the deal is that you get 1ppl discount per product up to a maximum of 3ppl! We get through a lot of heating oil, approx. 5,000 litres, so that’s a £150 saving – or 300 litres of free heating oil!
Our bills are now consolidated, the admin headache is gone, and if anything does go wrong, support is quick and easy. Honestly? The experience has been just as good as the savings.
For off-grid households who rely on heating oil, this trial opens the door to something we’ve never really had before: The ability to bundle your heating oil with all of your household utilities, lower bills, simpler management, better support, and more control.
In under an hour, you could be on your way to a smoother setup and a smaller annual bill.
I had a couple of questions and called UW, got through immediately each time and my queries were resolved really quickly, their team are super helpful.
If you’d like to see what bundling could do for you, just give us a call on 020 7052 4743. Our friendly team will answer questions, talk you through options, and put together a no-obligation quote.
